![]() But I seriously don't want to recommend this tutorial to anyone so that I may not end up with serious competitors in the fast growing gaming world.Chapter 1. Exploring the Stencyl Toolset and Game Engine I should've thanked you already by writing a review before you asked. When I bought this course, I thought this is at least a couple of years old and the tutor might not be interested in this course anymore. Above all, he keeps in touch on daily basis. However, his pronunciation of words are clear and understandable. In case you got any affiliate link to buy stencyl, let me know :) I'm sure I'm gonna learn working with stencyl faster than any of my previous attempts to learn other game engines.Ībout the tutor: He's really great. I'm going to stick with stencyl and no turning back because of you. But trust me, I have never had done something so fast as this. I've paid a lot of money on tuts and books on various software and game engines like unit圓d. Not to forget that I have no background related to Coding. But I didn't know that it was so simple before viewing your tutorial. I've just deactivated the keyboard movement and wrote code so that the paddle moves according to the mouse position. I took the brck ball stencyl kit and I didn't like to use keyboard for the paddle movement. I couldn't believe I've done something myself (although it is considerably a small task) I've just gone through 15 of your lectures. ![]() It'll be in Appstore and Google play by the end of this month hopefully. But I started working in stencyl like a pro and I've almost completed my first game. It's almost complete :)įor all wanna-be-gamers, I didn't even finish the complete lessons. You know why? Because I'm set creating my own game. Hey Richard, you may have not seen me around for few days. This is the third time I'm rewriting the review. If you're looking to get started with Stencyl I don't think you'll find a better intro than this course. For someone who has never done any game development, it is pretty amazing to be able to build something like that in a couple of weeks of 1 hour sessions nightly. An example: the game does not keep any kind of score and it does not vary the difficulty - I managed to create a simple scoring system ( 100pts for each enemy destroyed, 500 pts for reaching checkpoint), I made 10 levels with the enemies moving slightly faster the further you progress, and included "health packs" to replenish your character when you run into them. You can go off and try something and have enough knowledge that you can usually get the game doing what you want. There is a ton of room to experiment - building different levels, different types of behaviours etc. Honestly, part of the fun of this course is the lack of rigidity - you cover the essentials without building the bells and whistles into the game. There is just enough meat in the lessons to make progress but not so much that it would be over anyone's head. Richard takes you through the basics of creating a playable top down shooter video game. Prepare to start making your own games with Stencyl. Get excited, this is a learning experience you'll never forget. If you struggle, watch the video again until you get the full sense of the lesson. Implement game rules to determine between success or failureįor the most effective learning experience, it is essential that you pay close attention to each lecture in order, and then complete the task yourself.Design levels using tile-sets and actors.Write simple and advanced AI for non-player characters.Spawn and destroy actors in real-time, at will.Easily rotate actors to look at the mouse cursor.Create a top-down perspective for your game.Among many other things, by the end of the course you will have learned how to: Please follow through the lectures sequentially, and always maximize the videos to get the most out of them. Using the unique logic block system of Stencyl thought in this Stencyl Course, you will be able to create a game of any genre, quickly and effectively.
